Hello. I’m Ashley Cook, and I believe user experience is how we shape the world.
Every interaction, every decision, every point of friction or ease, it all adds up to how people feel, think, act, and connect. That’s why I’ve spent more than two decades helping organizations design experiences that are not only functional, but also meaningful, dignified, and empowering.
At the heart of every experience is a relationship, between people and the organizations they choose to trust. I specialize in designing at that intersection, where human needs and business goals meet. My work is about helping teams discover and deliver on their shared “why” – the purpose that connects what matters to people with what matters to the business.
“People don’t buy what you do,
they buy why you do it.
And what you do simply proves
what you believe.”
– Simon Sinek, Start with Why
That belief is what drives me, to shape experiences that are valuable because they are valued, by the people who benefit from them, and by the businesses that provide them. This philosophy isn’t limited to my professional life. I believe we shape experiences all the time, intentionally or not. In every interaction (at work, at home, in our communities) we have the opportunity to elevate others. And, I carry that ethos into every project and every relationship.
As a renaissance practitioner and leader, over time, my practice has evolved from UX strategy into end-to-end service design. Today, I apply human-centered design (HCD) processes to full value streams, designing not just for screens, but for systems. I help teams align offerings with purpose, across people, processes, policies, and platforms, so that every interaction contributes to better outcomes for everyone involved.
I don’t believe in inventing proprietary UX processes. That’s a waste of time. Every effective experience design practice is grounded in the same core moves: understand, explore, create, test, refine. What matters is applying those moves with care, adapting them to your team, your environment, your moment. Craft lives in context, not in branded frameworks.
I’ve worked in Agile, SAFe, Waterfall, and hybrid environments. I’ve helped product teams integrate research into delivery, transformation teams tie experience to strategy, and leadership teams build cultures of listening. My approach blends rigor and pragmatism, always tuned to the maturity, readiness, and goals of the people I’m working with.
And at the center of all of this is a simple principle:
“Do the best you can until you know better.
Then, when you know better, do better.”
– Maya Angelou
That’s what I try to do, every day. Learn with humility. Lead with intention. Listen deeply. Act responsibly.
That’s how I am MakingUXBetter.
